About the artist
Judy Garb Weiss is a Boston born, Harvard educated, Australia trained artist. She completed her Fine Arts degree at the National Art School in Sydney, where she resides and has her studio.
Judy’s practice is a confluence of the metaphysical and the surreal. At their core, her works explore the essence of things. When she applies her own internal prism, seemingly mundane subjects take on an unexpected, often ambiguous cast.
Within this framework, each of her collections is the exploration of a central idea realized through a unifying aesthetic. After several iterations of charcoal, graphite and ink drawings, Judy creates intimate, easel-size oil paintings to be contemplated at close range.
Since she began exhibiting in 2007, Judy has been in three solo and two group exhibitions and has been selected as a finalist in four national competitions. She has been represented by two longstanding Sydney art galleries, Charles Hewitt and Eva Breuer, until their owners retired. Her work is held in major Australian collections, as well as by private collectors in the U.S, Britain and France.
